‘Trusting in God; Growing in Wisdom’

MNEMONICS TO HELP WITH SPELLING

were  -  wet elephants running everywhere

went  -  wild elephants need teeth

why  -  warm honey yoghurt

where? here! there (all have here in) Where is it? Here it is. Where? Over there!

with -  Witch in tall hat  (put a 'c' between the 't' and the 'h' and you have 'witch'.

Mr  -  mice run

Mrs  -  mice run sometimes

which has hich in it (we chant this several times)

There's a hen in when, there's a hen in then  (we chant this several times)

our (belongs to Us so it has 'u' in it) *NB 'our' is often pronounced as 'are' in Cheshire.

are -  a red elephant

because -  ben eats curry and uses smelly eggs (children are told this is the only time that they can spell ben with a lower case b). The children are told to check their spelling with 'big elephants can always understand small elephants'. This is because 'uses' begins with a 'u' and not a 'y' and 'always' begins with an 'a'
