Governor Profiles

Mrs Teresa Finney

I have had a long association with the school, as all three of my boys attended Whitegate Church of England Primary School over a period of 12 years. I am a committed Christian and the Children’s Worker for St. Mary’s & St. Peter’s Churches, so work closely with the school as part of the Ministry Team to continue to strengthen the links between the school and the church.

Before becoming a mum I was an Architectural Technician, working in private practice and the Local Authority, latterly in the department that dealt with Church of England Primary Schools. These are valuable skills in managing the upkeep, maintenance and any further building projects the school may wish to undertake.

Whitegate school holds a place very close to my heart, and I want to work to help make sure that it can be the best school it can be, and to give opportunities for all the children in our school community to thrive educationally, socially, emotionally and spiritually, learning about the love the of God.

Mr Ian Roberts

I am passionate about supporting Whitegate school staff and pupils. I have been a parent governor for 4years and am now a foundation governor (linked through our Church, St Mary’s Church)

I have a few areas that I have an interest in, one being communication with parents. I would like to develop further the communication links between parents and school. I'm also passionate about developing our pupils’ emotional resilience. . My last passion is e-safety. All three of my areas are areas I would like to develop further in school. All three are areas that I have experience in and would use my experience in that area.

I have worked in the NHS for approximately 30 years, training as a psychiatric nurse initially but now as a mental health psychotherapist (family psychotherapy and psychodrama) working with children and families. I currently work within the Cheshire West and Chester area, and work with colleagues in health service as well as local authority.

Mrs Linda Pinder

As a retired Primary School teacher with an emphasis on early years, I felt I would like to offer my experience in education by becoming a governor of Whitegate C of E Primary School. I previously was a staff governor for 10 years at a local Primary School.

Mrs Kerry Smith

I joined the team as a DBE foundation governor on 12/11/2015. I have a long family history with the school and the church, being a former pupil of Whitegate myself, I have a son in year 1 and my older son who is 12 also went to Whitegate school. I am pleased to support our school management team in ensuring all our pupils reach their full potential. I feel strongly about strengthening the links between church and school and I think both can play a significant roll in enriching each other’s worship and spiritual life. I am a member of the finance team and bring my knowledge of finance and accounting from my commercial activities.

Mrs Val Cotterill

I became a co-opted governor at Whitegate in 2015 following my retirement from primary education. I am chairperson of the Curriculum committee and am linked to the Foundation and Early Years classes.

I worked for over 30 years as a primary school teacher, starting my career at Whitegate School. I went on to become a head teacher, first in a small rural school and then in a larger urban school. For the four years I was Chair of the Cheshire Association of Primary Head teachers.

I have lived in Whitegate since I was three and was married at St Mary’s. I love to spend time with my family and friends and enjoy volunteering at Station House Café and for The Joshua Tree, a charity based in Northwich. I’m a member of Whitegate and Marton Parish Council and secretary for Whitegate Recreation Room. I enjoy the Arts, reading, sewing and ‘creating’ in my pottery workshop. I play an accordion in a folk dance band and enjoy playing at many events.

Family is very important to me and the photograph was taken recently on an evening visit to a beautiful village in France. With me are my husband, Dave, my daughter, Hannah, and my grandson, William. Dave and I love to travel around Britain and Europe in our motorhome and have visited many wonderful places.

I thoroughly enjoyed my career in primary education and remain passionate about offering an inspiring and challenging curriculum and environment to all children to ensure they become the best they can be. I am delighted to be able to offer my skills and experiences to support the school.

Mrs Diana Bancroft

I’m pleased to be a Foundation Governor at the school where our 4 sons were educated in the 80s and early 90s. The Christian foundation they received has stood them in good stead for their future education and their chosen careers, 2 as teachers.

I am Chester Archdeaconry President of the Mothers’ Union, a Christian organisation supporting families worldwide. In addition, I am working for the local Foodbank. I’m a member of St.Peter’s Church where I have various roles. I’m a member of the PCC and it is my intention to keep them up to date with school news. My grandchildren also keep me busy!

I was a Parent Governor and later a co- opted Governor at the Verdin High School for 15 years. At the same time, I was a Foundation Governor at Wharton Primary School for a short period of time. I enjoyed being involved in school life. At each school, I was involved in the appointment of a new head.

Although I am a qualified nurse and midwife my interest has always been in education. For many years I gave private piano lessons and more recently I was a peripatetic keyboard tutor at the Verdin High School. My husband and I always supported our sons’ schools and encouraged them throughout their education.

Mrs Sharron Ross

am thrilled to be working at Whitegate C of E Primary School teaching Elm and being part of the wider community. Although this isn’t the first time that I have worked at Whitegate, prior to starting my teacher training I volunteered in the classrooms and worked as a midday assistant. Since completing my training I have been teaching in Cheshire for 10 years. I am passionate about teaching and like to make learning fun and exciting for all the children.
Outside of school I enjoy walking, swimming and reading. Music is also a passion of mine, although I am not an expert musician, I love listening to all genres of music and thoroughly enjoy attending live performances.
