Curriculum

“We feel that the chemistry between our child and teacher is excellent.  Advances are being made in creating a bespoke and appropriate teaching/learning approach.” (Parent of a child in Y5.)

Our school curriculum is designed to comply with the requirements of the Education Reform Act (1988), which introduced the National Curriculum.

In line with Government recommendations, we teach our children a broad and balanced curriculum that provides breadth and depth within each subject and provides children with the opportunity to work at a 'Mastery' level in each subject.  At Whitegate School we ensure that each child receives the education that will enable them to reach their full potential.

Our varied, Christian based curriculum, inspires pupils' thirst for knowledge and promotes a love of life-long learning in a creative, challenging and safe environment.  At Whitegate School we aim to aid pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as well as promoting British Values and encouraging pupils' aesthetic and creative interests. By doing so, we hope to produce well rounded, independent individuals ready for the next steps in their lives.

When possible we teach through a thematic approach and, as some of our classes are taught in mixed ages, some areas are taught over a 2 year rolling programme. Themes are planned to ensure coverage of RE, Science, History, Geography, Computing, Art and Design, Music, PE and PHSE (Personal, Health and Social Education). Some PE and Modern Foreign Languages are taught by specialist teachers.

When planning for learning at Whitegate School, we aim to develop skills so that the children become:

  • active listeners;
  • independent learners;
  • creative problem solvers; and
  • coherent speakers

Our school has an open door policy and we will gladly meet with any parents who wish to know more about the curriculum we teach or how they can best enhance their childs own learning.
